Book Review: Could An Octopus Climb a Skyscraper by Aleksei Bitskoff & Camilla de la Bédoyère

FTC Disclosure: Book received at no charge to facilitate review.

Ask anybody how many arms an octopus has and you're bound to get the right answer. What if an octopus needed shoes for her arms? How many pairs would she need? Or what if an octopus was in danger and had to detach an arm? Would a new one grow back? Could An Octopus Climb a Skyscraper? puts an octopus into everyday scenarios while helping the reader learn facts such as shape, size, and other features. Did you know an octopus has three hearts? Neither did I but reading about it makes it's easy to remember.

While the question and answer format stimulate thought, the fun is in the illustrations. Be prepared for silliness times eight as the arms of the octopus get tangled in all sorts of tasks. A perfect combination of learning and laughter for the curious young reader. A solid recommendation.

Thank You, Jackson by Niki and Jude Daly: Book Review

Book received at no charge to facilitate review

Every morning Jackson the donkey carries his heavy load of vegetables up the hill and to the market. Though he works hard, he never complains and never rests. One morning, Jackson does something out of the ordinary and stops halfway up the hill and sits down. No amount of cajoling by the farmer can get Jackson to move.

When the farmer becomes frustrated to the point of threatening to beat the donkey, his wife, Beauty, sends their son, Goodwill, to help. The boy whispers in the Jackson's ear and the donkey willingly goes up the hill again. To the farmer's astonishment, he learns simple words can make a huge difference.

A sweet story emphasizing the morals of kindness and appreciation  Warm acrylic illustrations aid in stirring young heartfelt emotions. Recommended as a good read-aloud for the preschooler.
